Today I have an exciting post! Finally a new interview. This time it is a small and black owned brand MaJAc Collection. We know each other from Instagram (make sure to out her beautiful gram) and I am absolutely in love with her styles. I know you will love her creations as much as I did so dared to ask her for an interview. Today I am sharing it with you. Please meet Marie Lovely Eloi.
1 It may be a boring question but it is always curious. How did you start MaJAc Collection?
MaJAc Collection started when me and my husband started dating. As a young child, I’ve never had any interest in sewing until my last year in University. In 2013, i bought a sewing machine at Walmart and a few yards of fabric, elastic. I went on YouTube searching for circle skirt from there i made my first piece. A few years, i explained to my husband how i wished to sew like my mom. That’s how MaJAc ( mah-djak) started. At first it was MaJAc Designs then changed into MaJAc Collection.
2 What was the very first product you ever designed for MaJAc Collection?
The very first piece that hit my IG was a green african print gown with orange train. I made that piece for one of my friends. She was attending a wedding and that was when everybody knew i sew. I felt overjoyed that day
3 There are lots and lots vibrant and magical patterns in your collections. Where do you find inspiration for them?
Laugh... i love bright colors because they make me happy and i find most of my inspiration on Pinterest. Plus, i follow Stella Jean’s works. She mixes prints beautifully.
4 How does being a mother help you to be a better designer?
Honestly, I’m not a designer yet which I’d like to be one. As a new mom, i encounter a lot of challenges, but i always try to balance both.
5
the last question is something I always ask designers. they say creative
people always do something about their toys when they are little. I
know a hairdresser who made new short hair cuts for each doll overnight.
Did you do something like that when you were little?
Unfortunately, I’ve never dreamt of being a “designer “. At first, i wanted to be a dancer, model, and singer. So, no i never destroyed my toys.
All photos belong to MaJAc Collection and is added per permission of author.
Have a nice day,
Lyosha

ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first collection interview. I have to say you sew really well and yes, sometimes life puts us on paths that are completely different from what we wanted. Who knows, you just might end up being a designer. Keep doing you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for introducing us to this wonderful designer and MajAc Collection. I love the interview. Keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteGreat interview with Marie Lovely Eloi. Glad that she proves that what you did with your toys in the past doesnt preview your future or else I would be an undertaker cause most of my G.I. Joes are buried in the backyard of my childhood home.
ReplyDeleteI do love Marie's designs though. These colors and patterns are so unique and pop. I really like that green dress and of course that pink and purple skirt is awesome. ReplyDeleteI’m impressed, I must say. Really rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.
