It was not a day 3 for everyone, it was just a day three for me. It was a start ofEthnic fashion program, focusing on heritage and friendly differences between various people of Russia. It is an issue for many people here that the differences are not embraced and even among the majority of people of Russia various habits, cultures, languages and traditions are not supported and seen as wrong, while on the Russians (Slavic people) are seen as real Russians and only their culture is appropriate. It is a very important day to me as well being a minority. Today I want to show the collections from Tatarstan region (and I highly recommend to take a look at the first six costumes because after all this a blog of a Tartar girl) and Bashkotostand region (both by Millihasite group), Tyva (two different shows), Sakha (north Syberia) and Bryansk (a collection of typically seen as "from Russia"), there also was a collection from fellow Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan (the latter from Happy Bird Atelier is more of the modern look to the roots). I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

My outfit is mostly about the vest I worn differently this time. Thankfully this skirt is roomy enough to accommodate thick knitted vest and a shirt easily and comfortably. I paired the looks with neutral shoes and a bag. I find the outfit cute really and it doesn't go with ethnic styles but generally I do think trying to fit in traditional style keeping it comfortable for photo-work is too tricky. Well.. I'd totlly be outshined by proper dresses on a catwalk anyway.
Jil Sander boots
Calvin Klien bag
Lusio skirt (Russian brand)
H&M vest
Unqlo white shirt
Calzedonia tights
Have a nice day,

ReplyDeleteLove seeing different styles that came from different places.. says a lot about them! Interesting outfits!
ReplyDeleteI left Russia 30 years ago, none of this was even in the making. It's fascinating to see how far these former USSR republic went their own cultural way. Stunning outfits.

to be brutally honest all of these style are way older than USSR. Surely in USSR period nobody should have been different comparing to the 'party standard' but it's very hard not to embrace who you are because you can not just fit in that easily, being different by birth. The reason why people try to speak up about it if the harm USSR did to ethnic cultures.
DeleteI have read about Tartarstan and history and the culture, but never saw the traditional outfits before. They are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteoh thank you for reading about it! You made me feel so happy! And I am glad I could fill in the gap
DeleteWOW there are some really stunning outfits here. So much history and culture.

DeleteWhen I saw this, I fangirled. I'm fascinated with all things Russian, and seeing these stunning costumes, particularly the deep orange and red/maroon ensemble, is truly wonderful. Also seeing the Bashkotostan and Kazahstan collections - it's incredible how we can tell which group they belong to just on the design of their outfits.
ReplyDeleteI love looking at how fashion in other counties differ from western cultures. Everything photograph is so pretty and traditional.
ReplyDeleteI will be the first to admit that I know next to nothing about Russian culture, so this was really neat to see, and it makes me want to go research and learn more about it all! Your outfit also looks amazing. It has such a classic feel to it, and I love it.
ReplyDeleteI am glad it was interesting, now you know a little more and it's fun. After all after this post you aware of different cultures out there, not only of the slavs

It's beautiful to see these ethic and traditional designs and costumes. The Tatar costumes with their bright colours are stunning but all of these traditional designs are beautiful in their own way. I have always loved folklore and national costumes. It is great you were able to visit this event that shows fashion and culture from different ethnic groups in Russia. Do you have any books to recommend about Tatar culture? I have watched some Youtube videos about Tatarstan region and their music/culture. I know that the Soviet Union didn't look kindly on minorities and often suppressed their culture. I have recently read a novel Zuleikha (otvaraet glaza ) by Guzel Yakhina.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I didn't know you were a minority.
I read Zuleikha too and enjoyed it a lot! It's pretty awesome you read it in different country, I didn't know the book was translated. As a tatar I can't really recommend books on traditions because I never needed it first place as my family is very traditional, for example, my first language is tatar not russian. Actually, I even look very typical for my nationality, very average. In fact both Soviets and modern day Russia is not kind to minorities, I was bullied in school for that, I even had issues on the streets with aggressive people.
DeleteI'm very sorry to hear that you were bullied for it. That's horrible. I know that it was a problem in Soviet times but hoped things were better now. However, the fact that books like Zuleikha are popular in Russia (and other countries) must be a good sign. Possibly there will be changes for the better and minority cultures will get the respect they deserve. I read Zuleikha it in a Croatian translation (I think). It could have also been one of the languages used in BIH, they are quite similar. Would you recommend the TV series? I haven't seen it.
DeleteWow so many different cultures represented! Love the jewel colors of the Aspara Kazakstan. The teal dress with the sunburst is my favorite
ReplyDeleteWow! Love your outfit. Your skirt is really nice.
ReplyDeleteLoved the pieces featured too during the show. There is so much character. :)
